Pub. #3- Martin Luther King Said....

In life, freedom is earned by those who are willing to pursue it. In order to be free, one has to endure all the pain and sacrifice it takes to be free. Successful people are free but, not happy. In order to be free or successful, one has to eliminate their ego away from the situation. In the short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, the author Charlotte Perkins Gilman showcases freedom is taken by those who want it. Gilman expresses that freedom is earned by pain and sacrifice, which is expressed through Gilman’s experiences. For example, Frank Sinatra was a well-known musician adored by his fans; bobbysoxers and rat pack, but he did not view himself as successful or free. Frank Sinatra went through stress and triumph to get where he is. Frank Sinatra and Charlotte Perkins Gilman are similar in that they both went through appeasement. Gilman went through the rest cure procedure for John, while Frank Sinatra made his fans happy in spite of what he thought of himself. Gilman said, “it is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough to constantly irritate and provide study, and when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance. They suddenly commit suicide plunge off at outrageous angles, destroy themselves in unheard of contradictions” (Gilman 317). In other words, Gilman is referring to the yellow wallpaper, but Gilman is also referring to freedom. The road to freedom takes twists and turns toward the road to success. The short story, The Yellow Wallpaper is relatable to the song Buried Alive by the rapper Logic. In the song, Buried Alive by Logic, Logic talks about being neglected as a hip hop artist by his peers. In the short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, Charlotte Perkins Gilman is neglected by her husband, John. Logic and Charlotte Perkins Gilman are intertwined because both of them promote freedom and positivity. Logic and Charlotte Perkins Gilman exemplify people could come from different time periods, but have the same ideals.
